In 2022, the Normand Park Residents’ Association (NPRA) and the Van Hull Estates residents organization decided to start a project to plant native trees to enhance the natural riverbottom forest in our wonderful park.

In the Normand Park section, the goal was to finish an earlier project to provide shade along the pathway and also expand the “naturalized” area, first started by residents over 30 years ago, with a plan to plant native trees in a small grassed area. In the Van Hull section, plans were made to add to the naturalized area close to the river bank.

Thanks to funds from the City of Winnipeg's Community Incentive Grant Program, Manitoba’s Building Sustainable Communities Program, and NPRA funds in reserve for this purpose, planting large Bur Oak, Manitoba Maple, and American Basswood trees got underway in early November 2023. Adding mulch, and then watering the trees over the next two years, starts this Spring.
